ASICS was founded in 1949 by Kihachiro Onizuka with the aim of contributing to society through youth sports on the guiding philosophy of "a sound mind in a sound body." It expresses our desire for people around the world to find health and happiness, both physically and mentally.

The ASICS Institute of Sport Science translates our philosophy into reality, playing a central role in continually creating innovative technologies, products, and services that maximize the potential of non-athletes and athletes alike.

ASICS spent three years of research and development on its METARUN^™ model to fulfill its mission of creating a superior running shoe. The institute sought to maximize the four functions essential for a comfortable long-distance running experience: lightweight design, stability, fit, and cushioning.
